Shedding velvet

Today was a beautiful day!  Honestly, I think today may have been one of the top 5 days of the summer.  The sun was out, the sky was a pretty blue, and the animals are getting ready for rut.  The elk and caribou are both starting to shed their velvet.
Hershey, the caribou that we walk daily, has completely shed his velvet already.  he shed it all in one day!  The females were taken out of the enclosure to prevent the males for fighting over them, and possibly injuring themselves.

I told you it was a B-E-A-UTIFUL day! :)

After work me and sarah went in with Chimo.  He is our 11 year old Alaskan Bull Moose.  The Alaskan Bull moose is the largest member of the deer family.  Anyways, so this is Chimo.  He has a hoof growth deformity.  This means that we have to annually trim his nails for him.  If he were to  be released into the wild he would eventually not be able to run from a predator or even walk around since they would grow so fast.

When we were feeding the calves at 6pm we wanted to goof around and take some funny pictures.  The moose both turned around and well.....it was just a funny picture I think.
Have you ever heard of the laying down game?  It is an international game where people try to get pictures laying down in odd places.  I figured a moose would be really odd right?

Then I figured why not upgrade to a bull moose....
