Volunteers

Whew!  It was so nice to finally have a day where we were actually working at the center the WHOLE day!  Today was supposed to be a day dedicated entirely to cleaning....I said "supposed" to be since we really didn't get as much cleaning done as we wouls have liked.  However, it was still a nice day and we even had army reserve kids ages 14-17 come out to the center to volunteer.

First things first, the typical feeding and checking up on the animals commenced.  Snickers did his typical whining routine when we needed to leave his enclosure...
Julie was doing well...
6 chickens are roosting comfortably and ready for some feed...
Adonis the eagle is perching in his favorite spot....
and last but not least Hooty and Snappy the 2 Great Horned Owls are staring at me like they are mad at me or something...

So the animals were alive and well...

I went in around 12 to feed the cubs and the new couple that works at the center also joined in.  I was so proud of shaggy because, today for the first time ever she completely stood all the way up on her hind legs on command!  The cubs were trained with apples and grapes today.

3:00 came around and the volunteers finally arrived.  So I gave them a quick tour of the center, and then they began their work.  We had them walk in a line down the gravel road and pick up any rocks that were big enough for anyone to trip over.  Then they would toss the rocks into a tractor that was following us.  After they finished this task we gave them ice cream and let them finish up the day in the gift shop.

I headed out soon after to go to Girdwood to babysit for a co-worker. On the way to Girdwood I got a few pics of how nice and sunny it was today.....

I just got back around 11:45 and am exhausted.  Tomorrow will be another long day at the center since it is saturday.  We are supposed to have a beautiful weekend.  I can not wait to go to work tomorrow because, the center has the first baby of the spring!  We had a baby caribou born today!  So look forward to seeing some pictures tomorrow of a cute baby caribou.

Goodnight lower 48,
ErIn
